PLPs at Cabot
I look forward to opening the door to a flexible classroom environment - Giving the students the opportunity to shape spaces in which they may best learn. And also in ensuring they have a variety of options for deciding how they may show their understanding of concepts or their interests. In Literacy Workshop, this may include elements of creative writing or design they may choose as a response to or outgrowth of their reading - class books, but especially their personal reading interests - and a reflection piece of their work as part of the analysis we always encourage in class. We've talked about a class blog already - This would be a great sharing place.

Homework, Sept 17th...take away from today
Here's my take away from today's session:
Professional learning plans are a great thing for students and teachers. I welcome the paradigm shift. There are many dynamic teachers doing wonderful things out there, but this new shift will help focus and organize the efforts of teachers to create a meaningful framework for the students we serve. I hope that the students will have authentic ownership for this process and will come through a PLP with a good sense of what their strengths are, how they learn best and understand how to transfer their school learning into real life experiences. I believe that this work is important and that with a positive community of engaged educators that we can make this a meaningful process for both the students and ourselves as educators.
What do we need to do from here:
1. Discuss how we envision this working for the preK-12 school community. It seems like an early focus with middle level students is a very good plan. (could preK-4 create non-digital portfolios, which have evidence that is gathered and curated in a file?)
2. Are student goals varied in theme? Or do we select a few key areas for students to create goals?
i.e. : academic, social/civic, personal?
3. We will need to create a PLP format for Cabot that makes sense for us.
4. I'm still trying to understand how we are going to mesh grade point averages with learning proficiencies. Is there a point where GPAs will fade away?

Peter's Profile—ENTJ Starwars

Though I thought that Padme was an underwhelming character in the Star Wars redux, "the Giver" is definitely one facet of my personality. After taking the survey, it was very difficult for me to isolate one character profile...my results shows multiple options. I think that I have many personalities depending on my mood and environment.
Holly - ENFJ
Hmmm. I was kind of surprised to see this, but parts of the personality type fit strongly.

I may or may not have made my decision based on the character I liked more . . .
